Elsie died in the East Birmingham Hospital, Bordsley Green, Birmingham on 15 May 1975. Her cause of death was (1) bronchopneumonia due to recumbency following fractured left femur, (2) fall at home, (3) accidental death: “Certificate received from G. Billington, Coroner for Birmingham District. Inquest held 19th May 1975.”

Outward clinical symptoms of bronchopneumonia can include fever, coughing, chest pain, chest congestion, chills, difficulty with breathing and blood-streaked mucus that is coughed up. Upon diagnosis, most people will be treated at home with antibiotics. If the patient has a severe case of bronchopneumonia, he or she may be treated in the hospital where the illness can be more closely monitored. With appropriate treatment, most people recover fully within a couple
of weeks. Bronchopneumonia is more common in elderly people who can die from bronchopneumonia if they do not get appropriate treatment.

The marriage of Samuel RAMSDALE to Martha JOHNSON is recorded as Monday, 21 November 1814, at St. Peter's church, Aston Juxta, Birmingham - this information is correct.

The Certificate of Death of Samuel RAMSDALE records that he died on Friday, 15 April 1859, age 65 years, at 11 Court, Great Russell Street, Birmingham. The Greater Birmingham Burial Index describes him as 68 years of age when he was buried on 22 April 1859. This places his date of birth in 1791. It is possible that his age, 68, has been mistaken on his Death Certificate as 65. However, the 1851 census describes Samuel as aged 60, having been born in Wednesbury, Staffordshire in 1791, and Martha as aged 59 and born in Birmingham (therefore born in 1792). The parish of Wednesbury is adjacent to West Bromwich (to the east and south) which, in turn, is adjacent to Handsworth (to the east). Bromsgrove is due south, (approximately 16 miles).

The parents of Samuel RAMSDALE (Edward RAMSDALE and Hannah) were married in or about 1777 in St Bartholomew, Wednesbury, Staffordshire. The date(s) and place(s) of death of Samuel's father, Edward RAMSDALE, and mother, Hannah [?], are not known. The couple appear to have had only one child - Samuel RAMSDALE. Samuel RAMSDALE the elder may have died in military service after 1795 during the Napoleonic wars or in Birmingham.

Samuel RAMSDALE was born, by reference to his certified date of death (Friday, 15 April 1859), on a date between 16 April 1793 and 15 April 1794 being dates prior to Thursday, 1 January 1795, the recorded date of his baptism, and no more than 83 days after the recorded date of marriage of his parents (Wednesday, 22 January 1794).

Samuel RAMSDALE migrated from Bromsgrove to Aston Juxta on a date unknown between Thursday, 1 January 1795, the recorded date of his baptism in Bromsgrove, and Monday, 21 November 1814, the recorded date of his marriage to Martha JOHNSON in Aston Juxta. Samuel RAMSDALE may have moved from Bromsgrove to Aston Juxta during the Napoleonic war. On Monday, 21 November 1814 Samuel RAMSDALE would have been either 20 or 21 years of age. Had he been born prior to 21 November 1793 then he could have been 21 years of age when he married and would not have required the consent of his parents.

The marriage certificate of Samuel RAMSDALE and Martha JOHNSON reveals that the couple were married in St.Peter's church, Aston Juxta in Birmingham and both are described as "of this parish".

Shortly thereafter the married couple moved to the parish of St.Phillips, Birmingham, where six of their seven children were baptised.

Samuel RAMSDALE was illiterate and lived at the following addresses:

1827 - Livery Street and worked as a screw forger

1841 - 14 Cox Street, St.Paul's, Birmingham in which census his occupation is "wood screw forger"

1843 - 14 Cox Street at time of death of his 8 year old son, George

1851 - 14 Cox Street, Birmingham in which census his oocupation is "milk seller". Martha's occupation is "mangler" and that of their son, Samuel (aged 23), is "silver pencil case polisher (journeyman)".

1858 - in March described as a surgical instrument maker on the death certificate of his wife, Martha

1859 - 11 Court, Great Russell Street and described as a master mathematical instrument maker on his certificate of death - cause of death given as "disease of the heart" and "rheumatism".
